Silsila

A Silsila or Shajarah (often translated as "spiritual chain" or "lineage") refers to a continuous spiritual unbroken chain of transmission in Sufism (Islamic mysticism/Tassawwuf) that links a student to his teacher, and that teacher to his teacher, and so on, all the way back to the founder of the spiritual path, and ultimately to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

This chain signifies the authentication and preservation of spiritual knowledge, practices, and blessings from one generation of Sufi masters to the next. It ensures that the teachings and methods are passed down accurately and with the proper spiritual authority, providing a legitimate and blessed connection to the original source of the wisdom. Each link in the Silsila represents a shaykh or spiritual guide who has perfected their understanding and practice, thus qualifying them to transmit the knowledge and divine light to their disciples.
